Frequently Asked Questions
Why are your Quilter’s Clappers Thicker?
When you have a tailor’s clapper made from the correct wood type its thickness matters. Sure, even a thin board of the correct wood type will work perfectly at first, it will however warp because you are working with steam. So to counteract this the thicker size prevents the clapper from warping and twisting.
Why are your Quilter’s Clappers Longer?
Because Stacy is a quilter she wanted clappers long enough to account for seam allowance. This is why we sell clappers in 12.5”, 10.5”, 8.5”, 6.5”, and our Full Block clappers at 13” x 13”, 10” x 10”, and our 7” x 7”
Do You Sell Wholesale
We offer our handcrafted hard maple and cherry quilters clappers to quilt and fabric stores, quilt guilds, and quilt groups at 15% off the current retail price on a minimum order of 25.
See the Quilt Group Logo page for more information.
Our clappers are affordably priced for our retail customers which is why we do not run large high discount sales. In other words, we do not artificially raise prices to then give the illusion of savings though discounts.
Where do you source your materials?
Nearly all of our lumber comes from sawmills here in Pennsylvania while a small portion comes to us from South Carolina. The exotic lumber we use is imported from Brazil and Africa.
Do you make clappers out of red oak and walnut?
Not at all. At least not for the tool’s working surface (the steam absorbing bottom). Walnut would work perfectly except it has a tendency to leach a dark color when wet. Red Oak on the other hand is not suitable for clappers because of its lack of density.
See our Clapper Facts page for more information.
Are your Clappers Laser burned?
No, not at all. We wood carve our artisan wood products.
See our listing photographs for the depth and beauty of our many wood carving options.
Do you ship outside the United States?
Not at this time.
